The Baha'i National Center functions as the central administrative authority for the United States Baha'i community, operating under the National Spiritual Assembly—a nine-member council headquartered in Evanston, Illinois, near the Baha'i House of Worship in Wilmette. It directs national administrative operations and offers guidance for the community’s spiritual and moral development. The Assembly oversees a publishing trust and several periodicals, including The American Baha’i newspaper, Brilliant Star (a magazine for children), and World Order, a quarterly journal of opinion and ideas.

The organization also runs retreat and conference centers in California, Michigan, Maine, and South Carolina to support gatherings and study. Its Office of External Affairs, located in Washington, DC, handles the diplomatic and public affairs advocacy work of the Baha'i Faith. Based in the Chicago area, it serves a sizeable U.S. Baha'i community through these activities.
