Baltimore Energy Challenge is an environmental services organization based in Gaithersburg, Maryland. Founded in 2009 through a partnership between the City of Baltimore’s Office of Sustainability and the Baltimore Community Foundation, it focuses on educating residents about energy conservation with little to no cost, using demonstrations and materials delivered to schools, faith-based communities, and neighborhood groups. The program aims to connect participants with opportunities to further reduce energy use, such as home retrofits offered through an affiliated partner, Civic Works, and has evolved from a nine-month pilot reaching eight neighborhoods to broader involvement across more communities and citywide events. The organization operates with a small team and targets local residents and community institutions to raise awareness and drive practical energy-saving behaviors, reporting measurable reductions in utility bills among participants.
