Banka Slovenije is the central bank of the Republic of Slovenia. It was established on June 25, 1991, by the Act on Banka Slovenije as a public-law legal entity with its own assets and state ownership, and its financial statements are audited by an independent international auditor. The institution operates with financial and managerial autonomy, and its decision-making bodies are independent of directives from state bodies. Since May 1, 2004, it has been part of the European System of Central Banks, and since January 1, 2007, upon the adoption of the euro, it forms part of the Eurosystem responsible for monetary policy.
