Barnsley Football Club is a professional football club based in the town of Barnsley, South Yorkshire. Nicknamed the Reds or Tykes, the club was founded in 1887 under the name Barnsley St. Peter's by Reverend Tiverton Preedy. The club plays in the English Football League, wearing red, and the home stadium since 1888 has been Oakwell. The club has experienced great success over the years, from winning the FA Cup back in 1912, to promotion to the Premier League in 1997 and in recent years, winning both the League One Play-Off final and Football League Trophy at Wembley in 2016, whilst also enjoying promotion in 2019 and reaching the Championship Play-Offs in 2021. In addition, Barnsley FC Community Trust is the club's charity operation working to raise educational standards and engage with young people using the attraction of football.
