Founded in 1889 by the great-grandfather of the current publisher, The Bangor Daily News is among the oldest family-owned news organizations in the United States and the sole independent daily newspaper in Maine, providing high-quality state, local and investigative journalism and comprehensive marketing and advertising services.

Bangor Publishing Company today serves its readers and its advertisers from Portland to Aroostook County with a family of products providing statewide reach such as the Bangor Daily News, bangordailynews.com, The Piscataquis Observer, Bangor Metro Magazine, The County and thecounty.me, Pulse Marketing Agency and Print Works, a full service printer located in Presque Isle.

BDN community reporting is focused on Maine’s more rural regions, in eastern and northern Maine. Investigative reporting is statewide, as is policy reporting centered in Augusta with our politics team. In many communities we serve, the Bangor Daily News is the only entity providing watchdog reporting.
