Beijing Normal University is a higher education institution located in Beijing, China. It traces its origins to the Education Department of the Imperial University of Peking, founded in 1902 to launch teacher training in China's higher education system. Over more than a century, it has evolved into a comprehensive, research-oriented university with core strengths in the fundamental disciplines of science and the humanities, teacher education, and educational science. The university maintains extensive international engagement, with cooperative ties to about 500 universities and international organizations across more than 30 countries and regions, inviting more than 900 international professors and scholars annually while hosting around 2,000 long-term international students. In 2026, it expanded its international collaborations to establish a China-Africa Teacher Education Center.
