Bennett College is a private four-year liberal arts college for women located in North Carolina and affiliated with the United Methodist Church, operating within the higher education sector. It traces its origins to 1873 as a co-educational ministry school for newly emancipated slaves, operating in the basement of the Warnersville Methodist Episcopal Church. In 1926 it became a women’s college and today stands as the only all-female historically Black college or university in North Carolina and one of just two such institutions in the United States. The college emphasizes five focus areas: Leadership, Civic Engagement, Global Citizenship, Innovation/Entrepreneurship, and Communications. In 2026 the college launched its Centennial Presidential Leadership Series and appointed Ronald L. Carter as Acting President to assume duties on May 26, 2026.
