The Best Buddies Challenge comprises three athletic events staged in Boston, California, and Miami to raise funds for Best Buddies International. Best Buddies International is described as the world’s largest nonprofit focused on ending the social, physical, and economic isolation of roughly 200 million people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The supported programs help individuals with IDD form meaningful friendships, gain employment, live independently, and develop skills in public speaking, self-advocacy, and communication.

The Challenge is part of the civic and social sector and is based in Miami, Florida, operating with a small staff. Alongside cycling, participants may complete a 5k run or walk, with events held in Hyannis Port, Hearst Castle, and Miami. The IDD community served includes people with Down syndrome, Autism, Fragile X, Williams syndrome, cerebral palsy, traumatic brain injury, and other undiagnosed disabilities.
