From programs to careers, BEST Robotics delivers STEM education as a pathway to workforce development. As a national 501(c)(3) nonprofit, our mission is to inspire students to pursue careers in engineering, science, technology, and mathematics through curriculum and an annual robotics competition. BEST’s goal is to continue its legacy of providing programs at no cost to participating schools, with expenses fully supported through generous sponsors, supporters, and dedicated volunteers. With a focus on national programming, BEST is strategically expanding its footprint to reach students in all segments of the United States. By partnering with like-minded companies that need the critical, future-ready workforce BEST is cultivating, we work to remove barriers and ensure access for all students regardless of location, background, or educational setting. Our strategic national plan aims to reach even more rural communities without STEM opportunities and urban communities working to expand workforce-ready pathways that address the STEM talent shortage. BEST partners with all types of schools — public, private, charter, magnet, and homeschool groups — as well as afterschool and youth organizations such as Boys & Girls Clubs, 4-H, Scouts, YMCAs, and other community-based STEM enrichment programs. Founded in 1993 by Ted Mahler and Steve Marum, engineers at Texas Instruments, BEST Robotics grew from early success in Texas to neighboring states and became a registered nonprofit in 1997. Today, guided by a Board of Directors committed to STEM access and growth, and supported by staff and volunteers with expertise across industry and education, BEST Robotics continues to expand its impact nationwide.
