Based in London, England, the Better Cotton Initiative is a nonprofit organization focused on advancing sustainable cotton throughout global supply chains. Through a network of field partners, it has trained millions of farmers across 26 countries in more sustainable farming practices. The initiative coordinates collaboration among ginners, spinners, brand owners, civil society organizations and governments to align on standards and drive broader adoption of sustainable cotton practices. To date, more than 2.9 million farmers have participated in its programs, and about 22% of the world’s cotton is produced under the Better Cotton Standard. The organization aims to expand its reach in the coming years, targeting 5 million trained farmers and a doubling of global Better Cotton production by 2030, and has recently introduced enhanced decent work monitoring to accompany its licensing assessments.
