BWAF is a national research and educational nonprofit focused on changing the culture of the building industry so women's work is acknowledged and valued. It documents women's contributions, educates the public, and collaborates with museums, professional organizations, and industry groups across architecture, design, landscape, engineering, technology, real estate, and construction to influence practice. Based in New York City, BWAF operates as a 501(c)(3) organization with a small staff. In February 2026, the foundation appointed Phoebe Yee as board chair. Its work targets professionals in the built environment as well as the broader public interested in architectural history and design discourse. By documenting and sharing women's work, BWAF aims to address recognition gaps and catalyze changes in industry practice through collaborative initiatives.
