The Biblioteca Nacional de España, based in Madrid, is the national library responsible for identifying, preserving, conserving and disseminating Spain's documentary heritage since its founding in 1711. For more than three centuries it has safeguarded the country's diverse cultural assets and ensured their transmission to future generations. As Spain's principal bibliographic institution, it acts as a reference and advisory body for the development of library policies and related projects. It participates in European and iberoamerican initiatives and maintains a broad cultural program directed at diverse audiences to improve access to culture. In 2021 the institution partnered with the Barcelona Supercomputing Center to develop the first massive AI model of the Spanish language.
