Big Basin Vineyards is a small-production winery that pursues high-quality wines through a hands-on, natural approach. The estate farms organically, harvests by hand, and ferments with native yeasts from its own vineyards, using whole-cluster fermentation and avoiding fining or filtration, with only a minimal amount of sulfur added at bottling. These practices aim to preserve the character of the ocean-influenced mountain vineyards in the Santa Cruz and Gabilan Mountains. Based in Boulder Creek, California, the winery operates within the beverage manufacturing sector, led by founder Bradley Brown alongside winemaker Blake Yarger. Its wines have earned recognition from critics and publications, including Wine & Spirits Magazine's Top 100 Wineries in the World in 2018 and 2021 and a 2021 Slow Wine designation; in 2020 Blake Yarger was formally promoted to winemaker.
