Bildsten Architecture and Planning was established in 2014, following the partnership Bildsten + Sherwin Design Studio which thrived from 2002 to 2014.  Our concept of a vibrant architecture practice involves collaboration with related fields of engineering design and construction.  Together with our friends at Santa Barbara Contractors Association and Windward Engineering, we located a building in Santa Barbara's industrial area, with lots of potential to develop into the newest interesting part of town.  Renovations to modernize and open the space to air and light have yielded a creative, collaborative dynamic among all of us in the building.    

Our firm is focused on designing affordable workforce housing in mixed-use communities that encourage walking, biking and public transportation.  We approach architecture as a creative collaborative process, working closely with owners to meet the project goals and budget.  Engineering practicalities, sensible energy efficient components and sustainable construction methods are incorporated into our innovative designs.
