BIOASTER is a biotechnology research institute focused on microbiology and infectious diseases. It aims to address antimicrobial resistance, improve vaccine safety and efficacy, enable rapid bedside diagnostics, and leverage human and animal microbiota to support health. Established in 2012 as one of eight French Technology Research Institutes created under a government program, BIOASTER builds collaborative projects that unite academics, startups, SMEs and industrial groups around focused themes, supported by teams of experts and access to advanced infrastructure. Based in Lyon, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, with activities in Paris, it operates as an independent nonprofit focused on infectious diseases and microbiology in health and engages partners across academia and industry. A notable recent development is a September 2024 collaboration with Zynnon AG to advance VOC-based detection and identification.
