The Biomass Thermal Energy Council (BTEC) is a Washington, D.C.-based association founded in 2009 that brings together biomass fuel producers, appliance manufacturers and distributors, supply chain companies, and nonprofit organizations. The group treats biomass thermal energy as a renewable, energy-efficient option for meeting the nation’s energy needs and pursues research, education, and public advocacy to support the industry.

The organization has partnered with the U.S. Forest Service and the University of Minnesota to update the Wood Energy Financial Calculator. In 2021, it released a life cycle analysis study examining Renewable Fuel Standard implementation for thermal pathways using wood pellets and chips.
