The Bionics Institute is an independent medical research organization based in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, focused on solving medical challenges through technology. It leads in research and development of innovative medical devices and therapies intended to improve human health, supported by a multidisciplinary team of scientists, engineers and researchers. Its laboratories are located at St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne and collaborate closely with clinical partners to move concepts toward clinical use. Founded in 1986 by Professor Graeme Clark, the institute has a history of translating device concepts into clinical reality, including the cochlear implant developed by the founder's team and other diagnostic and therapeutic advances. It has expanded its capabilities with a prototype-focused manufacturing facility and, in 2025, announced a collaboration with Swinburne University of Technology to accelerate the development of medical devices for patients worldwide.
