The Birmingham Education Foundation is a small nonprofit focused on improving college, career, and life readiness for students in Birmingham City Schools through intentional network-building. It accomplishes this by offering direct programming for students and creating spaces for network members to form new connections and collaborations. The organization's work is organized into two core initiatives, Educate Local and Raise Up!. Educate Local provides high-value opportunities for authentic college and career access and essential skills training, while also engaging network members in activities that advance student-centered priorities and broaden students' networks. Raise Up! structures regular time and spaces that encourage relationships across differences, surface members' ideas and concerns, and enable volunteers to contribute to community needs. A recent development includes a partnership with the Birmingham Business Alliance to launch LaunchED, a pilot program aimed at exposing students to internships and life-readiness tools in the city.
