Boothbay Railway Village, based in Boothbay, Maine, functions as a museum and historical site focused on Maine’s mid-19th to mid-20th century heritage. The organization conserves artifacts, authentic period structures, and technologies from that era, and provides visitors with the experience of riding behind a genuine steam locomotive within a recreated village of historic Maine buildings. It also maintains a collection of about 60 antique automobiles and hosts seasonal events on its Village Green, including vintage ball games, car shows, and family festivals.

Its audience comprises history enthusiasts, families, and general museum visitors seeking an educational, experiential look at Maine’s transportation history and everyday life from the period. Within the museum, historical sites, and zoos industry, Boothbay Railway Village situates itself as a preservation-focused venue that emphasizes conservation and interpretation over large-scale entertainment. The operation relies on a very small staff. In 2019 the organization partnered with the Maine Antique Power Association to showcase shared commitment to preserving America’s mechanical past.
