Boston Center for Independent Living is a nonprofit organization founded in 1974 as the second independent living center in the United States. Based in Boston, Massachusetts, it serves people with disabilities across ages by offering programs that build practical skills and self-confidence to manage daily life and participate actively in their communities. Beyond direct services, BCIL engages in advocacy and community organizing to promote access and systemic change. BCIL operates within the non-profit sector, targeting individuals with a broad range of disabilities and aiming to support full community integration. As a mid-sized organization, its work centers on independence and inclusion within the local region and broader society. In December 2025, the MBTA, BCIL, and GBLS entered into the Next Generation Accessibility Agreement to advance accessibility for riders.
