Boston Debate League prepares students for college, career, and civic life through the transformative power of debate. Since 2005, we've worked toward a future where young people engage in civil discourse, reason with evidence, and are empowered to lead in the classroom, the workplace, and the world. Through three anchor programs — After-School Debate, Debate-Inspired Classrooms, and Resolved — we build the critical thinking, research, and communication skills necessary for success beyond the debate stage. As the region's only organization delivering debate programming proven to prepare underserved youth for the workplace, we equip students to analyze complex problems, construct compelling arguments, and advocate effectively in any setting. At a time when civil discourse feels increasingly rare, we believe debate is more essential than ever. We teach students to listen critically, engage across difference, and contribute to informed, respectful dialogue our societies need. We partner with more than 30 schools across Boston, Cambridge, Chelsea, Everett, Malden, and Somerville — intentionally serving students who face systemic barriers. Through scaffolded competitive divisions and Debate en Español, we ensure every student finds a high-impact learning environment where they can thrive. With nearly 500 volunteers and over 3,000 students served annually, we're building the next generation of leaders — one debate at a time.
