The Boston Private Industry Council (PIC) serves as Boston's workforce development board and school-to-career intermediary, appointed by Mayor Michelle Wu. As a mid-sized nonprofit, it deploys front-line staff to work directly with priority populations, creating a feedback loop between policy and practice that is guided by data analysis and research. It is one of the Commonwealth's 16 MassHire Workforce Boards. Based in Boston, Massachusetts, the organization has operated for more than four decades to connect residents with career pathways and to build a diverse talent pipeline for local employers. The PIC convenes business and education along with government, labor, and community leaders to align education and workforce development systems. Its work aims to address racial and socioeconomic inequities while better serving Boston residents and employers.
