Brevard Music Center operates as a summer institute and festival that trains gifted young musicians to prepare and perform substantial works at a high artistic level. It sits on a wooded 180-acre campus in the Blue Ridge Mountains of western North Carolina and was founded in 1936. 

Each season, more than 600 students aged 14 through post-college study with a distinguished faculty of artist instructors and renowned guest artists, participating in ensembles, private lessons, and chamber music over seven weeks. A defining feature is the sense of community that re-emerges each June as faculty and students present more than 80 public concerts to an audience that totals more than 40,000. In 2024, Brevard Music Center announced the appointment of Mical Hutson as director of marketing and communications.
