The British Thoracic Society (BTS) exists to improve standards of care for people who have respiratory diseases and to support and develop those who provide that care.
 
We are a registered charity and a company limited by guarantee.  Our activities cover all of the UK.  We seek to work collaboratively with others and maintain a global outlook.
 
On 30 June 2022, we had 4,254 members.   These are doctors, nurses, respiratory physiotherapists, scientists and other professionals with a respiratory interest.  All join because they share an interest in our main charitable objectives.  Many also join because they want to make a difference.  BTS certainly benefits from members' active participation in our work, with around 12% of the UK membership being involved in activities at any given time.
