The Broward Sheriff's Office (BSO) is a large, nationally accredited public safety agency based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. It employs almost 6,000 people, including more than 2,800 certified deputies and 700 fire rescue professionals, and provides full-time law enforcement across 13 Broward cities and unincorporated areas. BSO operates the Department of Detention and Community Programs, overseeing four jails and a range of offender programs. It also administers 9-1-1 intake for the majority of the county’s law enforcement and fire rescue agencies, and since 2003 fire rescue operations have been part of BSO, now under the Fire Rescue and Emergency Services division. A recent development noted in 2026 is the introduction and deployment of Airbus H145 helicopters to support operations across Broward County.
