Brown University’s Climate and Development Lab (CDL) operates as a think tank within the Institute at Brown for Environment and Society, conducting research on climate change policy with a focus on equity, justice, and climate finance. Based in Providence, Rhode Island, the lab collaborates with government, civil society, and media actors worldwide to identify research gaps and generate actionable ideas for policy and practice, including academic papers, policy briefs, op-eds, and blogs, as well as organizing events at national and international forums such as United Nations climate negotiations. The CDL also emphasizes transformational learning for Brown students, providing opportunities to develop writing and research skills while engaging with climate, development, and global governance issues. Founded in 2010 by Professor Timmons Roberts and colleagues, the lab maintains a regional focus on Least Developed Countries, small island developing states, Latin America, and the United States, and offers a platform for student involvement and global outreach.
