The Brownsville Independent School District is a large public education district based in Brownsville, Texas, spanning 95 square miles. It is the largest employer in the Rio Grande Valley and serves almost 46,000 students, supported by a substantial local workforce. BISD offers a range of academic programs, including Early College High Schools and services for students with special needs, with Bilingual and ESL programs addressing limited English proficiency, and it is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and the Texas Education Agency. The district works with the wider community to support student wellbeing, operating Campus Care Centers to address unmet medical needs of school age children and adolescents, and running a universal feeding program that provides breakfast, lunch and supper to all students at no charge. In 2026 BISD announced leadership changes, including the appointment of Roberto Baez as Director of Maintenance.
