The Building Decarbonization Coalition (BDC) is a mid-sized nonprofit based in Lewes, Delaware. It brings together policymakers, researchers, industry groups, and community organizations to advance decarbonization of the national building stock through policy, research, market development, and public engagement. The coalition aims to eliminate fossil fuels in buildings to improve health, reduce climate and air pollution, and strengthen community resilience to climate impacts. Its work targets public-sector and private-sector stakeholders involved in building design, construction, and operation, as well as communities affected by emissions. In 2024, the coalition announced a partnership with CalMTA to study how messaging about induction influences consumer attitudes, and it is pursuing policy work such as SB 1221 and AB 593 to pilot and plan large-scale clean-building solutions. The organization also traces its origins to a 2019 roadmap aimed at reducing greenhouse-gas emissions from buildings in California.
