Building Futures’ mission is to meet employer and industry need for skilled workers through the Registered Apprenticeship system while creating family-sustaining career opportunities for low-income diverse community members.

Building Futures operates a nationally recognized comprehensive pre-apprenticeship program to prepare diverse, low-income men and women for success in employment as registered apprentices in the building trades. In addition, we work in partnership with a wide range of stakeholders to ensure construction projects provide employment opportunities for apprentices at the appropriate level to meet future demand for skilled labor through our Apprentice Utilization Program. Our pre-apprenticeship and Apprentice Utilization Program together provide an effective system for workforce development in Rhode Island’s construction sector.

Through Apprenticeship Rhode Island, Building Futures’ initiative with the RI Department of Labor and Training, we help employers in high-growth industries across the state establish effective talent and development strategies through Registered Apprenticeship. Thanks to these partnerships, Registered Apprenticeship has expanded to 40 new occupations and 65+ new RI employer sponsors in industries like information technology, advanced manufacturing, fisheries & marine industries, green and plant-based industries, healthcare, community health and many more. We also work with the State Apprenticeship Council and stakeholder groups to ensure the state Registered Apprenticeship System best serves employers and apprentices.
