Butte County Office of Education (BCOE) is one of 58 county offices of education that provide services to the state’s school districts. County offices of education support school districts with services that can be provided more efficiently and economically at the county level. Examples include staff development and training programs, new curricula, instructional procedures, technology infrastructure and comprehensive business system software for human resources, payroll and finance. The county superintendent is responsible for examining and approving school district budgets and local control accountability plans (LCAPs). The superintendent is also responsible for calling school district elections and assisting with school district emergencies by providing necessary services, as well as monitoring districts for adequate textbooks, facilities, and teacher qualifications. BCOE serves 13 districts and 15 charter schools in Butte County and provides services to students and educators in all 58 California counties. In addition to mandated services, BCOE provides a wide range of other services, including special and career/technical education, programs for youth at risk of failure, migrant education, homeless and foster youth and instruction in juvenile detention facilities.
