The California Council on Science and Technology (CCST) is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization established by the California State Legislature in 1988 to provide objective, evidence-based policy guidance drawn from California’s scientific community and research institutions. Its work centers on convening a statewide network of experts across disciplines to inform public policy related to science and technology, responding to state leadership and other entities with commissioned analyses and peer-reviewed reports that support informed decision-making. In addition to policy analysis, CCST administers the Science & Technology Policy Fellowship, placing PhD-level staff in the Legislature and Executive Branch to build public-service leadership while expanding access to science-savvy expertise for state government. Based in Sacramento, CCST operates within the public policy arena as a resource for policymakers, funders, staff, legislators, and advocates seeking science-driven solutions for California’s policy challenges. Recent developments include leadership changes within the organization and activities around Science & Technology Week and related programs, reflecting ongoing efforts to broaden the state’s science-informed policy landscape.
