California Explorer Search and Rescue (Cal-ESAR) is a wilderness search and rescue organization that coordinates responses to searches and related emergencies across California. Operating under the California Office of Emergency Services, Cal-ESAR traces its origins to 1969 when it was chartered as Explorer Post 12 by the Pacific Skyline Council of the Boy Scouts of America. The organization comprises volunteers from both youth and adult backgrounds who dedicate their time to serving residents of California. It is based in San Mateo, California, and functions within the public safety framework. 

Cal-ESAR holds Charter Member status with the Bay Area Search & Rescue Council and serves as a resource for SAR operations and training throughout the state. To recruit volunteers of diverse ages and abilities, the organization runs a six-month training program to prepare participants for wilderness search and rescue and other emergency response tasks.
