The California Olive Oil Council (COOC) is a United States–based non-profit trade association headquartered in Berkeley, California. It promotes certified California extra virgin olive oil through education, outreach and communications, and maintains the COOC Seal Certification Program to uphold industry standards. The organization was established in 1992 by a group of farmers and marked its 25th anniversary in 2017. It has more than 400 members, including growers, producers, service providers, retailers and supporters, with growers and producers comprising the largest share, and it represents over 90% of California olive oil production. The COOC Taste Panel, founded in 1998, has certified over 350 oils from the fall 2016 harvest. It hosts meetings and events, many open to the public, on topics ranging from quality and flavor profiles to agricultural management, and it employs a small staff of 2–10 people.
