The California Special Districts Association (CSDA) is a statewide nonprofit membership organization that represents independent special districts across California. Founded in 1969 as a 501(c)(6) nonprofit, it aims to promote good governance and improved essential local services through professional development, advocacy, and related services. Based in Sacramento, CSDA serves a diverse range of districts—including irrigation, water, park and recreation, cemetery, fire, police protection, library, utility, harbor, healthcare, and community services—and provides education, insurance programs, legal counsel, litigation support, legislative advocacy, funding assistance, collateral design, and timely information for district management. CSDA counts more than a thousand member districts and stands as the only statewide association representing all types of independent special districts. Recent activity includes collaboration with the County Auditors’ Association of Ohio to co-sponsor adaptive financial reporting legislation for small districts and ongoing leadership-focused events.
