The California Institute for Telecommunications and Information Technology - known as Calit2 - is a three-campus multidisciplinary research institute. It is one of four institutes launched in December 2000 through the California Institutes for Science and Innovation initiative and has divisions at UC Irvine, UC San Diego and UC Riverside. Under the direction of Professor Athina Markopoulou, Calit2@UCI provides a collaborative research environment for the data-driven AI future, focusing on the digital transformation of healthcare, energy, the environment and culture. More specifically the institute: • Creates research teams consisting of members from multiple academic departments and campuses. • Extends involvement beyond faculty to students, industry and government partners. • Enables prototyping in the building’s “living labs” to push projects beyond theory. • Provides research proposal and technical support. Calit2@UCI – where a collaborative spirit creates innovation, integrates experience, ignites ideas and incubates new businesses.
