Cambridge Symphony Orchestra is a community-based ensemble based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, established in 1975 by adult amateur musicians. The organization focuses on presenting high-quality concerts and events while also offering music education and engaging in social action, aiming to provide a welcoming environment for both players and audiences. Its activities include outreach performances for audiences with limited access to live music, extending the reach of orchestral and chamber repertoire beyond traditional concert halls. The orchestra serves local communities in and around Cambridge and positions itself within the regional classical music scene as a nonprofit ensemble committed to accessibility and outreach. Although it operates within the musicians’ sector, its emphasis on free and low-cost concerts alongside outreach distinguishes its mission from more commercially oriented orchestras.
