The Canada Council for the Arts (Conseil des arts du Canada) is a Canadian government administration agency that serves as the national public arts funder. It supports a vibrant and diverse arts and literary scene and seeks to extend its presence across Canada and internationally. The organization is based in Ottawa, Ontario, at 150 Elgin Street, and employs 201 to 500 people. Its history includes co-founding the Governor General's Awards in Visual and Media Arts in 1999. In 2020, Wente became chair, the first Indigenous person to hold the role at the Canada Council for the Arts, and in 2026 the Council announced it would serve as Commissioner for the Venice Architecture Biennale's 2027 edition, selecting a curatorial team for the Early Warning Architecture exhibition.
