Capitals Coalition is a global, multi-stakeholder collaboration that brings together leading initiatives to harmonize approaches to managing natural, social, and human capital. It seeks to shift corporate behavior toward preserving and enhancing these forms of capital by standardizing methods for non-financial accounting to enable their valuation and reporting in business. The organization has published two international protocols—the Natural Capital Protocol and the Social & Human Capital Protocols—that provide a standardized framework for identifying, measuring, and valuing direct and indirect impacts and dependencies on capital stocks. Based in London, England, the organization traces its roots to 2012 as a project hosted by the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW), and it consolidated into Capitals Coalition in January 2020. It serves businesses and other organizations seeking standardized methods to identify, measure, and value their direct and indirect impacts on natural, social, and human capital and to report these publicly.
