Carbiolice is a French plastics manufacturing startup founded in 2016 and based in Riom, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. It has developed a universal additive, supported by around forty international patents, that makes biobased plastics compostable under domestic conditions to combat plastic pollution. The technology targets plastic and packaging applications that cannot be recycled, offering an eco-friendly path toward zero waste by allowing such plastics to be treated as bio-waste and improving source-separation of waste. The project is supported by regional authorities, notably the Région Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. In 2020, Carbiolice collaborated with Barbier Group to develop a PLA-based mulch film, illustrating active industry partnerships. The company operates with a relatively small to mid-sized team and focuses on sustainable plastics solutions.
