Based in Carmel-by-the-Sea, California, the Carmel Bach Festival is a performing arts organization founded in 1935. It has grown from a four-day program into a two-week festival that features concerts, recitals, master classes, lectures, and open rehearsals built around the works and enduring influence of Johann Sebastian Bach, with efforts to widen access to classical music and related education. It aims to immerse audiences in a festival experience that blends music, education, and ideas while maintaining year-round community engagement beyond its immediate locale. The organization’s mission centers on celebrating Bach worldwide by providing a platform where performance and educational programming intersect. In 2024, the festival appointed Nathan Lutz as executive director, signaling leadership continuity to guide its evolving programs.
