Carnegie-Stout Public Library serves Dubuque and surrounding communities in Iowa, offering a substantial collection that includes more than 270,000 volumes, hundreds of periodical subscriptions, and a wide range of audio and video materials. In addition to general holdings, it maintains archival resources such as an obituary file dating to the late 1850s and a local newspaper index. It provides electronic resources and access to information online, supported by public computing resources for patrons and a mission to improve quality of life by promoting enjoyment, enlightenment, and knowledge. The library includes an Iowa and genealogical section, with a volunteer genealogist available most Tuesday evenings to assist researchers, and its Youth Services Department focuses on emerging literacy for children and teens. In 2018, Carnegie-Stout Public Library launched a community outreach initiative aimed at expanding access to its offerings.
