C.A.S.T. for Kids Foundation is a nonprofit organization based in Salem, Oregon, established in 1991 to connect volunteers who enjoy fishing with children who have special needs for a day outdoors on the water. Formed as a public charity with 501(c)(3) status since 1994, the foundation operates two programs: the core C.A.S.T. for Kids program and Take A Warrior Fishing, the latter serving military personnel and their families through adaptive, community-based outdoor recreation. The organization coordinates a nationwide slate of events—over 70 annually—relying on volunteers, government agencies, sponsors, and local groups to provide opportunities that allow participants to experience fishing and outdoor life that might not otherwise be accessible. A recent development highlighted in local media is a collaboration with Pacific Seafood Group in Newport to offer children with special needs the chance to go crabbing as part of its outreach.
