Catering By The Family is a spin off of "The Family Sandwich Shoppe", which opened in 1976 as a 60-seat family restaurant. We won the Tampa Tribune's Cuban Sandwich Contest in 1976, 1977 and 1979. Frequent road improvements on Henderson Boulevard had an adverse effect on business at The Family Sandwich Shoppe; therefore it was necessary for us to diversify our business. In 1982, the Gonzalez & Guggino families saw the opportunity to pursue the field of off-premise catering, providing specialty foods from all cultures and walks of life, thus, Catering By The Family was established. As the years passed we acquired more knowledge of fine foods; expanding into the areas of display cooking, elaborate food, and custom menus. In 1993, Catering By The Family moved to a new 6,000 square foot facility with a 2,500 square foot kitchen, 2,500 square foot warehouse, and 1,000 square feet of administrative office space. In August 2002, Catering By The Family took an enormous step and acquired a 17,500 square foot facility in the North Hyde Park neighborhood. With a 3,500 square foot kitchen, 12,000 square foot warehouse, and 2,000 square feet of administrative office space.
