The Cathedral Choral Society, based in Washington, DC, is the city’s oldest symphonic chorus and a GRAMMY-nominated ensemble. Founded in 1941 by the Cathedral’s first music director, Paul Callaway, it has since been led by a small succession of directors, most recently Steven Fox from 2017 onward. The choir emphasizes developing emerging voices through regular commissions and by featuring outstanding young soloists.

Each season includes four mainstage concerts at Washington National Cathedral, with additional performances outdoors or off the Cathedral Close. The ensemble comprises roughly 120 singers from diverse backgrounds. In late 2024, Catherine Ort-Mabry was named interim executive director, reflecting leadership transition as the organization continues programming and outreach to broaden access to choral singing and preserve the art for future generations.
