Catholic Theological Union (CTU) is a mid-sized higher education institution based in Chicago, Illinois, focusing on graduate-level theology and ministry within the Roman Catholic tradition. Founded in 1968 in the spirit of the Second Vatican Council, CTU has grown to be one of the largest Catholic graduate schools of theology and ministry in the United States. Its diverse student body represents many countries and faith backgrounds, and its faculty includes scholars from Catholic and other religious traditions. CTU's alumni network numbers over 4,000, with graduates serving in parishes, social service organizations, schools, and a wide range of ministry settings across the United States and in 60 countries. The Bernardin Center for Theology and Ministry operates within CTU, advancing Cardinal Bernardin’s ideas through scholarships, seminars, lectures, and programs focused on reconciliation and peacemaking, interreligious dialogue, the Consistent Ethic of Life, leadership development, and related initiatives. Recent developments include CTU being recognized with multiple Catholic Media Awards in July 2024.
