Cayton Children's Museum operates as part of ShareWell, a nonprofit organization focused on developing brave and generous thinkers through arts, immersive play, and real-world action. The entity guides children and youth to recognize injustice and explore possibilities within communities and beyond, facilitating meaningful, collaborative action toward a better future. The museum, located in Los Angeles and associated with ShareWell’s Zimmer Children’s Museum legacy, is part of a broader initiative that also includes youTHink, a youth development program.

ShareWell’s efforts are aimed at children and youth as its primary audience, with a mission to foster inquiry, creativity, and social engagement through hands-on experiences. The organization situates itself within the nonprofit sector, combining educational programming and community-oriented activities to address social awareness and action. A notable development is the relocation of the Zimmer Children’s Museum to Santa Monica, where the Cayton Children's Museum is expected to resume operations, reflecting the ongoing evolution of the organization’s physical footprint in the Los Angeles area.
