The Center for Maine Contemporary Art (CMCA) is a contemporary arts institution founded in 1952 that presents a year-round program of exhibitions featuring artists with ties to Maine. It also offers a range of educational programs for all ages, including gallery talks, performances, film screenings, and hands-on workshops. Since 2016, CMCA operates in a newly constructed Rockland building designed by Toshiko Mori, featuring three exhibition galleries, a lecture hall, an ArtLab classroom, a gift shop, and a public courtyard. The facility sits in downtown Rockland, across from the Farnsworth Art Museum and adjacent to the Strand Theatre. In 2024, CMCA announced the appointment of Robert Wolterstorff as its executive director. Based in Rockland, Maine, the organization presents contemporary art exhibitions and a broad education program for diverse audiences, situating itself within the regional museum and arts landscape.
