Central Gippsland Health (CGH) is the major provider of health and aged care services in the Wellington Shire, operating as a sub-regional health service. Located in the City of Sale, 215 km east of Melbourne, CGH is surrounded by some of Victoria’s most remarkable natural attractions, including the Gippsland Lakes, 90 Mile Beach, and the Victorian Alps. CGH delivers a wide range of health services through an integrated model of care across the Wellington Shire and beyond. Acute services are provided across three campuses, Sale, Maffra and Heyfield, and include a 24-hour emergency department, critical care and neonatal critical care units, three operating theatres, a day procedure unit, oncology, dialysis, and general medical services. Sub-acute services such as rehabilitation further strengthen our range of care. Our commitment extends beyond acute care. CGH operates four residential aged care homes across Sale, Maffra and Heyfield, providing high-quality, person-centred care in supportive and homelike environments. Community-based programs also play a vital role in helping people stay healthy, active and independent at home. These include Support at Home, Commonwealth Home Support Programs, and a range of tailored in-home services. This integrated approach is supported by a strong multidisciplinary allied health team, offering physiotherapy, dietetics, occupational therapy, speech pathology, and social work. Accessible public dental services are also available to further enhance community wellbeing. As a recognised teaching hospital, CGH is affiliated with Monash University’s School of Rural Health and provides valuable placements and clinical experience for students.
