Central Hospital for Veterinary Medicine, established in 1973 by local veterinarians, was created to enhance veterinary practice through centralized staff, equipment, facilities and ideas. Based in North Haven, Connecticut, it focuses on small-animal patients, treating cats, dogs and a broad range of other companion animals, including birds, amphibians, reptiles and several small mammals. The in-house team comprises more than twenty veterinarians supported by a hospital team of nurses, technicians, technician assistants and administrators, and the hospital received referrals from over 300 veterinary clinics in the previous year.

Two locations operate with round-the-clock staffing, providing 24/7 urgent and emergency care year-round. The facility offers a suite of specialties, including surgery, emergency and critical care, anesthesia, cardiology, ophthalmology, oncology, exotics, behavior, dermatology, internal medicine and radiology/ultrasound, along with interventional radiology and canine rehabilitation. It also provides I-131 therapy.
