Central Lake Ontario Conservation Authority (CLOCA) operates as a local, community-focused environmental organization and is one of Ontario's 36 Conservation Authorities. Established in 1958, it manages a watershed network covering more than 639 square kilometers, draining four major and eighteen minor watercourses. Its territory extends from the Ajax/Pickering area in the south to Clarington in the east, reaching north to the crest of the Oak Ridges Moraine, and it is headquartered in Oshawa, Ontario. CLOCA provides science-based programs and services for watershed management, delivering them in collaboration with municipal partners, local landowners, environmental agencies, and various levels of government. Its municipal partners include the Region of Durham and the Cities of Oshawa and Pickering, the Towns of Ajax and Whitby, the Municipality of Clarington, and the Townships of Scugog and Uxbridge. In 2020, the authority launched the Conservation Area Trail Stewards (CATS) pilot program at Lynde Shores Conservation Area to enhance visitor experience while safeguarding wildlife.
